Comparison
Vapi AI, compared for Indian businesses.
Vapi is voice infrastructure: you bring the models, it orchestrates the call. Oye Hello is a finished product for a business that wants its phone answered. Comparing their headline rates without saying that is how people end up surprised by a bill.
Who Vapi AI is built for
Vapi is the assembly layer. You choose the speech recognition, the language model and the voice, you supply the keys, and Vapi runs the real-time loop between them. For a team that wants exactly that control, it is one of the best options available, and its per-minute platform fee is genuinely low because it is only charging for the orchestration.
When Vapi AI is the better choice
- You want to pick every model in the stack yourself and swap any of them later without changing platforms.
- You already hold API keys with your preferred speech and language providers and want to keep billing with them directly.
- You are building a product and need infrastructure with SOC 2, SSO and RBAC available as you scale, not a turnkey receptionist.
When Oye Hello is the better choice
- You want a working agent rather than the parts to build one, configured from a document rather than from code.
- You want one predictable rupee figure per minute that already includes the models, not a platform fee plus several provider bills.
- Your callers speak Indian languages and you would rather not evaluate and assemble Indian speech models yourself.

Questions people ask
Is Vapi cheaper than Oye Hello?
The headline says so and the invoice usually does not. Vapi publishes $0.05 per minute, but that is the orchestration only: speech recognition, the language model and the voice are billed separately at cost. Voice synthesis alone is often the largest single line. Bland's public pricing page estimates a typical production stack at around $0.13 per minute all in, which is roughly Rs 12. Oye Hello's Rs 4.5 per minute on Sarvam voices already includes every model. Compare all-in figures, not platform fees.
Do I need developers to use Vapi?
In practice yes. Vapi is deliberately infrastructure, and the work of choosing models, holding provider keys and wiring the call flow assumes an engineer. That is not a criticism, it is the product's design. If nobody on your team is going to write code, you want a finished agent rather than an orchestration layer.
Can I bring my own API keys to Oye Hello?
Yes. You can run on our keys or supply your own, and you can pick the model behind each agent and tune its reasoning depth. The difference from Vapi is that this is optional rather than the starting position: the default is a working agent, and the control is there if you want it.
Hear it before you decide
The fastest way to judge any of these platforms is to talk to one. Oye Hello has nine live agents you can call from your browser with no account and no form, each answering for a different kind of business. Talk to one now, or read how the AI receptionist works.
